Kit’s free plan carries 10,000 subscribers with unlimited sending. Omnisend’s carries 250 contacts and 500 emails a month. But these two are barely competing: Kit is built for creators selling to an audience, Omnisend for stores selling products, and the free-tier gap says less than it appears to.
Read 8 August 2026 in USD, at 1,000 subscribers for Kit and the 250–500 contact tier for Omnisend. These platforms target different buyers, so the comparison sets out where each fits rather than crowning one. Neither was tested hands-on.
The Short Version
If you have a store, Kit is missing the things you need. If you have a newsletter, Omnisend is charging you for channels you will not use. Detail in our Kit review and Omnisend review.
Free Plans Compared
| Kit Newsletter | Omnisend Free | |
|---|---|---|
| Subscribers / contacts | 10,000 | 250 |
| Monthly sending | Unlimited | 500 |
| Automations | 1 basic visual automation | Included |
| Web push | Not offered | 500 notifications |
| SMS | Not offered | Paid per message |
| Sell digital products | Yes | Via store integration |
| Landing pages and forms | Unlimited | Not offered |
Paid Pricing Compared
| Kit | Omnisend | |
|---|---|---|
| Advertised entry | $33/mo (annual view shown first) | $11.20/mo (3-month promo) |
| Real monthly rate | $39/mo (Creator) | $16/mo ongoing (Standard) |
| Next tier | Pro $79/mo | Pro $59/mo ongoing, 2,500 contacts |
| Ecommerce triggers | Purchase-based tagging | Abandoned cart, checkout, purchase frequency |
| Transaction fee | 3.5% + 30¢ on sales | Standard processor fees |
| Migration help | Free on paid plans | Free, 5 days |
Both pages show a number you will not pay: Kit defaults to the annual view, Omnisend to a three-month prepay promotion whose ongoing rate ($48.00 ÷ 3 = $16.00) is never stated in words.
The Number That Actually Decides It
Whether you have a product catalogue. Omnisend’s value is abandoned-cart and purchase-frequency automation wired into a store, plus SMS and web push in one bill. None of that helps a newsletter. Conversely Kit’s 10,000 free subscribers are irrelevant to a shop with 400 customers it emails weekly — Omnisend at $16 covers that comfortably.
Verdict
Store: Omnisend. Newsletter or creator business: Kit. This is one of the few pairings where the free-tier headline is genuinely misleading — the fortyfold subscriber gap does not matter if the features you need sit on the other side.
